No Caldwell 24-Hour Release Feed
Caldwell County does not publish an official 24-hour released list. The sheriff’s Detention page links one “List of Current Inmates.” That changing PDF is titled “Daily In Custody Report by Facility.” It shows who appeared in custody when the report was generated. It has no 24-hour filter, release date, release reason, destination, former-inmate archive, or photograph.
A missing row is only a clue. The person may have left on bond, completed time, received a court-ordered release, transferred to NCDAC or another county, entered federal or immigration custody, or disappeared from the data after a correction. Comparing two copies of the current report does not authoritatively reconstruct a release list. Each movement must be confirmed by the sheriff or the receiving system.
Check Caldwell County Same-Day Releases
The most useful fallback is a short chain built around one named person or a tightly bounded date range. Start with the current PDF only to answer whether the person appears in present Caldwell custody. Then move to a status source and the existing commitment/release report. The report is better evidence because it can preserve the accomplished movement rather than a changing snapshot.
- Open the official current-inmate PDF from the Detention page. Note its generation time and compare full name, booking number, charges, and booking date when names repeat.
- Search North Carolina VINELink, also called NC SAVAN, for an explicit current custody, status, or location result. Absence alone is not proof of release.
- Call Caldwell County Detention Center at 828-759-1510. Ask whether the person remains in county custody and whether an accomplished release or transfer can be confirmed.
- Request the existing commitment/release report for the named booking. Ask for the release date and time, type or code, releasing authority, and destination if those fields exist.
- Review the associated criminal case in the North Carolina eCourts Portal. A disposition can explain authority for release, but the sheriff record supplies the physical exit time.
A written request should include the full name, aliases, date of birth if legitimately known, booking number, case number, and narrow date range. Ask for an electronic uncertified copy and estimated cost first. G.S. 132-6 says copies should be supplied as promptly as possible but sets no fixed number of days. G.S. 132-6.2 lets an agency decline to create a compilation that does not exist.

Caldwell 24-Hour Release Record Fields
Because there is no online Caldwell County 24-hour release list, the fields below are not a description of a sheriff feed. They show the difference between the current-custody PDF and fields that should be requested from an existing commitment/release report. Ask conditionally for fields already maintained by the office. Public-records law does not require staff to make a new table or write a fresh explanation.

Release type is as important as time. Bond means pretrial conditions were met while the case continues. Time served concerns the custodial term tied to that authority, not another case or hold. A transfer ends Caldwell’s physical custody but continues confinement elsewhere. A court dismissal can support release, yet another charge or warrant may prevent an immediate jail exit.

This office route supports a targeted request, but the county does not post a booking-release form or guaranteed turnaround.
Caldwell Jail Release Time Limits
The Caldwell County Detention Center Inmate Handbook contains a narrow timing rule. It says people serving sentences of eleven days or more can be released at 8 a.m. on the release day when credit days apply. Those serving ten days or less serve hour-for-hour and minute-for-minute. It also says CRV or DWI inmates do not receive trustee credit.
This handbook rule does not establish a universal release hour. It does not govern all bond-outs, immediate judicial orders, transfers, or other release types. A person may leave at a different time for reasons outside that local sentence-credit provision. The handbook was effective April 1, 2021 and remained linked from the live Detention page on the research date, so timing should still be verified with the jail and the judgment.
Most important, the qualified 8 a.m. rule creates no public 24-hour feed. It describes one operational result for certain local sentences. The commitment/release report remains the source for the actual time in a particular booking.
Note: The handbook’s qualified 8 a.m. statement concerns certain local sentences and must not be extended to every Caldwell County release.
Caldwell Bond Release Is Pretrial
The sheriff documents three ways to satisfy a secured Caldwell bond. Full cash may be handled through the Clerk. Qualifying property owned by a Caldwell County landowner can be used through procedures that may include a deed search. A professional bondsman is the third route. The Detention page says a bondsman generally charges no more than 15 percent as a nonreturnable service fee, and detention staff cannot recommend one.
A bond release is a jail exit, not a judgment on the charge. The prosecution remains pending unless the court later enters a disposition. A person may also remain held when another bond, case, warrant, detainer, or transfer authority exists. Check every linked case in eCourts and use the sheriff report for the actual release time. The court record and jail record answer different parts of the event.
For court-date questions, the sheriff directs people to the North Carolina court system rather than the jail. The current Caldwell Clerk general line is 828-759-3500. The Detention page separately gives 828-759-3502 for its court-date instruction, which may be a functional line. Neither number turns a court order into proof of the jail-door time.
Caldwell Release Retention Is Not Online
Caldwell’s timestamped current-custody PDF has no released-person archive. The state retention schedule does not create one. Section 20.13 of the local-government Program Records Schedule expressly includes inmate accountability rosters and commitment/release reports. When those reports are not part of a criminal case file, the schedule allows destruction after their reference value ends but requires the local agency to set its own minimum.
That “reference value” rule is a record-management provision, not a promise that former inmates will remain visible for a day, three days, or any fixed web period. Online display and record retention are separate. A request can ask the sheriff for both the named release report and Caldwell’s adopted retention or online-display policy. No statewide duration can be inferred from the current list.
G.S. 132-6.2 also matters here. A requester may choose a medium the agency can provide, but the office need not compile a new 24-hour list. Ask for an existing record tied to a named booking or narrow range. If access is restricted, request the cited basis and any public portion that can be separated.
Caldwell Sheriff App Has No Feed
The official Caldwell County Sheriff, NC mobile app is available for iOS and Android. Its official listings describe public-safety information, tips, news, and interactive features. They do not document an inmate search, booking photographs, custody alerts, a 24-hour release window, or a recent-release archive. A user review is not enough to establish an agency feature.

The listing supports use of the app as an official sheriff channel, but it does not support advertising it as a release feed.
Use NC SAVAN or VINELink for a named-person status check and future change alerts. Search the exact person, resolve same-name matches, read the displayed custody or location, and register on the selected record when notice is needed. Phone, text, and email choices may be shown. Automated phone registration uses a PIN to confirm receipt. An alert still needs confirmation from the originating custodian.
Caldwell Release and Transfer Checks
A county-jail release, state-prison release, and federal release require different records. For Caldwell County Detention Center, use the sheriff’s commitment/release report, NC SAVAN status, and eCourts case. For a person transferred to or released from NCDAC, use the general offender detail and the dedicated monthly Inmate Release Search. The state tool can show offender number, release date, primary offense, and type of release, but it is state-prison data rather than a rolling local-jail list.

Federal Bureau of Prisons and ICE records apply only when those systems had custody. A BOP “Released” or “Not in BOP Custody” result means departure from BOP, not freedom from every other authority. ICE’s locator has exact-match rules and a limited recent post-release window. A movement from Caldwell to any receiving custodian is not a community release.
