No Caldwell Release Mugshot Gallery
The Caldwell County Sheriff's Daily In Custody Report contains no photograph. It lists current-custody fields such as booking number, name, charges, arresting agency, judicial status, bond, court information, and booking time. It has no release date, release reason, destination, former-inmate archive, or photo.
A person who leaves the list may have been released, transferred, moved by a court, or affected by a data correction. That disappearance does not create a Caldwell County released inmate mugshot record. The county also does not publish an official 24-hour or 72-hour release gallery.
To confirm the custody event itself, use the sheriff's commitment and release report. Ask for a booking or identification photograph as a separate record because access rules, retention, and any withholding basis may differ.
Caldwell Release Photo Sources
Each official channel has a narrow scope. A photo from one system should not be described as though it came from another. In particular, an NCDAC offender photo is not the Caldwell County Detention Center booking photograph.

VINELink may display identifying information supplied through a participating record, but it is a status and notification service rather than a permanent Caldwell mugshot archive. eCourts supplies case and public document information, not the sheriff's full booking-photo collection.
Request Caldwell Booking Photographs
The sheriff's Support Services page identifies the records secretary and says incident-report copies can be obtained in person on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding holidays. It does not publish a booking-photo-specific form, set photo price, or guaranteed response time. Frame the request around an existing record and keep it narrow.
- Identify the person by full name and aliases, plus a date of birth if legitimately known.
- Add the booking number, case number, and a short booking-date range when available.
- Ask for the existing booking or identification photograph tied to that booking.
- Request electronic delivery and an estimated cost before work begins.
- If access is restricted, ask the custodian to cite the legal basis and provide any segregable public part.
- Request the commitment and release report separately if the release event must also be confirmed.
Use the Sheriff's Office at 2351 Morganton Boulevard SW, Lenoir, NC 28645. The detention center's dedicated line is 828-759-1510, and the facility is staffed 24 hours. Records work may use business hours even when jail operations continue around the clock.
G.S. 132-6 calls for access at reasonable times and copies as promptly as possible, but it does not set a fixed response-day count. G.S. 132-6.2 addresses available media, actual reproduction cost, and the rule that an agency need not create a record that does not exist.
Caldwell County's fiscal-year 2025-26 schedule gives general copy and media terms, but those terms should be confirmed for the requested law-enforcement record. It lists paper copies as free through 25 pages, then 8.5-by-11 copies at $0.10 in black and white or $0.25 in color. USB or DVD media is at cost, and postage is charged except below $0.70. A reasonable actual-cost special-service charge may apply under G.S. 132-6.2(b), with a 50 percent contractual deposit. Ask for an estimate before agreeing to any special service.
A digital image request may not require paper at all. Ask for the existing electronic file in a medium the office can provide. Do not demand that staff enhance, crop, compile, or create a new gallery. If the booking image is part of another record, ask whether a copy can be separated without exposing restricted material.
Note: The county's general fee schedule may guide an estimate, but it does not prove that a specific law-enforcement photograph is open or carries a set fee.
Caldwell Mugshot Access Limits
North Carolina law does not support a promise that every booking photo is open. G.S. 132-1.4 generally restricts criminal investigation and intelligence records while identifying enumerated incident and arrest facts that are public. The statute does not expressly make every release field or every booking photograph public.
G.S. 15A-502 authorizes fingerprints and photographs in specified circumstances. Authorization to create an image is not the same as a universal access command. The safe process is to request the particular Caldwell County image and allow the custodian to apply the record-specific law.
Juvenile, sealed, expunged, investigative, and security-sensitive records may have further limits. If part of a record can be disclosed, ask for that segregable portion. Avoid assuming that the public status of an arrest fact automatically controls an image kept in an investigative file.
Caldwell Photo Retention and Access
Retention answers how long an agency keeps a record. Access answers whether the requested record can be inspected or copied. They are not the same question. North Carolina's local-government records schedule lists three years for an identification photograph not maintained in a case file. When the image is in a case file, it follows the case schedule instead.
The schedule flags the criminal-investigation confidentiality issue. Therefore, a retained photo may still be restricted, and a potentially accessible photo may no longer exist after lawful disposition. Ask the sheriff whether the requested image is maintained in the case file, whether it remains in custody, and what legal rule governs access.
The same distinction applies online. Caldwell County publishes no former-inmate photo archive or stated display period. A missing image on the web does not prove deletion from agency files, and continued agency retention does not require a public online gallery.
Caldwell Sheriff App Photo Limits
The official Caldwell County Sheriff, NC app exists for iOS and Android. Its store descriptions mention public-safety information, news, tips, and interactive features. They do not document an inmate-search module, mugshots, recent-release photographs, or a release window. A user comment is not enough to establish an official function.

The listing confirms the app's official identity, not a photo feature. Check the current store text if the app changes, but do not advertise an undocumented mugshot or released-inmate search.
Caldwell State Offender Photographs
NCDAC offender detail can display a photograph for someone in the state correctional record. Use the Offender Public Information search when the person served a state sentence, entered NCDAC custody, or appears in its supervision history. NCDAC expressly excludes county-only jail information.
A photo in that detail belongs to the state offender record. It does not replace the Caldwell jail booking photograph, even when the person was once held at Caldwell County Detention Center. Read Inmate Status, Actual Release Date, and supervision status with the image so a state-prison exit is not confused with complete discharge.
The NC SBI registry is narrower still. It may show the latest available registry photograph for a person required to register. The official registry can be searched by its available fields, but registry presence is not proof of a Caldwell County release date or reason. It is not a general mugshot archive.
Caldwell Official News Photographs
A Caldwell sheriff release or another official agency announcement may include an incident-related image. Such publication is selective. It cannot be used to reconstruct everyone booked or released during a given span. Search by the person's name and the incident date, then check the publication date and issuing agency.
Local news may also reproduce an official image, but that copy can lose context or remain online after the source record changes. Prefer the government release for provenance and confirm the custody result through the sheriff report or NCDAC record. Commercial mugshot publishers are neither endorsed nor treated as authoritative sources.

Caldwell Expunction and Mugshots
North Carolina uses “expunction” and “expungement” for the legal process that can remove eligible case material from public view. Eligibility and timing depend on the statute and outcome. A petition generally goes to the clerk in the county of charge or conviction on the correct AOC form. Some matters require completion of the whole sentence, including supervision.
An expunction order affects covered public case visibility and triggers Article 5 procedures, including limited confidential retained files and rules for certain covered compilers. It is not a promise that every copy of every image disappears from every place. Ask the agency or publisher holding a specific image what order or policy applies to that copy.
No enacted North Carolina law was verified that creates a blanket public right to all mugshots or a blanket anti-pay-to-remove rule. House Bill 446 of 2025 remained pending in the legislative process as of the research date. A pending bill is not current law and should not be cited as a removal right.
For the release record rather than the image alone, use the Caldwell County released inmate search. It separates the county jail, NCDAC, court, and federal paths so a photograph is not mistaken for proof of current status.
